I held a monthly singing session up here in the Blue Mountains for a while. As part of this, I posted a lot on social media through local community groups. Then in January last year, I found myself very depleted after complications post-Covid.
Even though I considered it a fairly simple task sharing the beautiful post a lovely local woman had created for us, I started to notice something disturbing. Each time I shared, I felt like a part of myself went out too, not just at that moment, but over the days to follow as people interacted with the post. In my state of heightened vulnerability and sensitivity, I noticed how much energy that took, at the invisible energy level.
So I started noticing my energy in relation to social media at different moments, and have started a practice of calling my energy back to myself, even now that my energy is stronger again.
Of course there are other ways that can lead to this draining or fracturing of our energy, such as overloading with the news, other people's struggles, and of course, simply losing ourselves in social media scrolling. We've all lived through enormous change over the past years, and with that we need ways to maintain our energetic as well as our physical health.
Take a few moments each morning or evening or whatever works for you.
Take a few gentle breaths, bringing your awareness to your feet on the earth, to the skies above, and to your heart. When you find that centred place from your heart, call out to the parts of you that may be still out in your online world, whatever that looks like for you. Then simply notice what happens. You may not notice much at first, but see what happens if you keep it up. I'd love to know how you go.
with love,
Lure
